A chicken crosses a road one lane at a time. Each lane survived raises the multiplier, you collect whenever you want, and the wrong lane ends the round the way you would expect. InOut Games shipped it in 2024 and it spread through crypto lobbies faster than anything since Aviator.

Strip the joke off and it is Mines in a straight line: a run of independent steps, a rising multiplier, a collect button, and a risk setting you choose before the round. It returns 98%, which puts it between the studio crash games and the house originals. And it carries one risk none of the others do, which is the last section on this page and the reason to read it before depositing.

Four difficulties, one return

Before each round you choose easy, medium, hard or hardcore. The setting changes how likely a lane is to end you and how fast the multiplier climbs, and the two move against each other so the return stays at 98% whichever you pick.

Hardcore does not pay better than easy in any sense that shows up over a thousand rounds. It pays more per lane because you reach far fewer lanes, and the product of the two is 0.98 either way. This is the same relationship the bomb count has in Mines and the risk level has in Plinko, and it is worth learning once because it governs the whole category.

Which also settles the most common question about the game. There is no lane that is the right one to stop on. Every step carries the same 2% charge, so collecting at three lanes and collecting at twelve have identical expected value and very different odds of arriving.

98%, and the one advantage that gives it

Twice the cost of Mines, two thirds the cost of Aviator. The column that usually gets skipped is the third one, and on this page it is the interesting one.

A house original’s 99% is the operator’s to change. Stake reserves the right to adjust its house edge at its sole discretion without prior notice, and its terms go further and disclaim liability if the RTP shown inside a game disagrees with the real figure. Chicken Road’s 98% is InOut’s, identical at every licensee, and no casino can quietly recompile it. You are paying an extra 1% for a number that cannot move.

As always, the rate beats the percentage. A round takes seconds; a hundred rounds an hour at 5 a round is 500 staked and about 10 expected to go. The stake per round is the number that decides an evening.

Verifying a round

Chicken Road is provably fair, and it is the standard implementation rather than Aviator’s pooled one. A server seed is committed in advance by publishing its hash, you supply a client seed you control, and a nonce steps once per round. Rotate the client seed, the old server seed is revealed, and you can hash it against the published commitment and recompute which lane was fatal in every round played on that pair.

One caveat that applies to every licensed provably fair title: the verification tool has to actually be exposed by the casino. Every game on this site contributes 0% or is excluded outright. Chicken Road has a third state, and it is worse than either.

The game is newer than most terms documents. A casino that added it in 2025 is frequently still running an excluded games list written before it existed, so Chicken Road is missing by name while falling squarely inside a catch-all clause about crash, instant or minigames. You are then in the position of having played a game that is not on the list, under a rule that plainly covers it, with the interpretation decided by the operator at the moment you ask for your money.

That is exactly when a discretion clause bites. Stake‘s clause 13.1 states the operator’s decision on any dispute is final and not open to appeal, and most licences allow something similar. Being technically right about a list is not a position you want to be in at that point.

Chicken Road strategy

Stopping on the same lane every round is a reasonable habit and does not change the return. Each round starts fresh, and the lane that ended the last one carries no information about this one.

Moving up a difficulty to win back a loss changes the size of the swings and not their direction, because all four settings return 98%.

Reading the animation is the one people keep trying. The chicken’s walk is a presentation of a result that already exists in the hash, the same way a Plinko ball is. There is nothing in the movement to interpret, and the fact that you can prove that is the best thing about the game.
